THE SABBATH

The Sabbath Day is the first Holy Day we find instituted in the scriptures. It was instituted on the 7th day of the week, when the Lord rested from his work in creating Heaven and Earth. The word "Sabbath" means to cease, to stop, or to rest.

In the book of Genesis, we find proof of this information.

Genesis 2:(1) Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. (2) And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. (3) And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

The LORD blessed and sanctified the sabbath day. Sanctify means "to set apart as" or declare holy; consecrate".

LEVITICUS 20:(8) Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it Holy.

The Sabbath begins Friday at Sundown to Saturday at Sundown. Any form of cooking, buying, selling, or working is prohibited according to the law. This is a day of Holy Convocation and fellowship.

Our regular sabbath class commences every Saturday at 3:00 pm Eastern Time with fellowship amongst other believers. The class is also streamed live on Facebook.

HOW DO WE KEEP THE SABBATH?

NO WORKING

HOLY CONVOCATION

"Exodus 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

NO BUYING OR SELLING

"Nehemiah 10:31 And if the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt."

NO COOKING

Exodus 16:23 And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

NOT DOING YOUR OWN PLEASURES

13 "If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:"

Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

THE SABBATH IS A SIGN

EXODUS 31:12-18 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for insix days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
